REPORT: Berri during Emigrants Economic Conference: Lebanon will triumph over economic restrictions

Speaker Nabih Berri stressed Thursday that Lebanon will achieve victory over the economic restrictions thanks to the citizens and emigrants, noting that Lebanon will also be capable of building an economic stability.

In a speech he delivered during the 2nd Emigrants Economic Conference, Berri hoped that the state’s institutions will resume their work in accomplishing constitutional engagements, particularly the presidential elections, stressing his permanent commitment to the Taef Accord.

The speaker also called for reconsidering the laws that restrict the Lebanese financial transactions and transfers, noting that Lebanon remains better than some European countries on the security level.

On another note, he urged all the parties to stop accusing Hezbollah of bringing terrorism into Lebanon through its intervention in Syria.

In turn, Banque Du Liban Governor Riad Salameh confirmed that “the Lebanese Pound maintained its purchasing power despite all circumstances and has improved compared to European currencies and non-oil Arab currencies.”

In his speech during the conference, Salameh revealed that a new computational finance has been introduced to increase the BDL assets in US dollar by at least USD 3 billion.
