REPORT: Jebchit town imposes new controversial decisions
Jebchit, a village in the district of Nabatieh in South Lebanon, has issued a series of measures to be imposed on public entertainment places and internet networks.

The town’s mayor defended the decision, explaining that one item orders the said places to close during prayers and on Fridays, while another item imposes gender segregation at these places.

These decisions have triggered an outrage among the people, who took to social media platforms where some compared the municipality of the town to the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, and other to the Islamic State.

Among the wave of comments, one person said: “They forbid gender diversity at pools, internet networks and public places and ban watching porno movies, but they permit intercrural sex, temporary marriage, child marriage’ they deprive mothers form custody of their children, they allow divorce in absentia and they rob women of their inheritance.”

But the mayor, who said that the municipality reserves the right to take necessary measures in case of violation, deemed the people’s reaction as ridiculous.
