Israel’s Army Radio station, which has been under pressure from right-wing politicians to broadcast more patriotic programming, aired a show about the poetry of Mahmoud Darwish, who is regarded as one of Palestinian literature’s most important figures.
The radio station’s broadcast raised controversy, leading Israel’s far-right defense minister, Avigdor Lieberman to compare Darwish’s poetry as fuel to terrorism against Israel.
Lieberman summoned the station’s head, Yaron Dekel, to reprimand him over the broadcast of the poem on the station’s University on the Air program.
