Harb calls for improving Lebanon’s conditions in agreement over submarine cable

Telecommunications Minister Boutros Harb kicked off his meetings in Cyprus on Monday with senior officials in order to discuss a treaty to be signed between both countries over the “ALEXANDROS Submarine Cable.” Minister Harb had deemed the agreement proposition as unfair to Lebanon and is seeking to improve the contract’s conditions so that they become compatible with Lebanon’s interests.

Harb had started his meetings with Cyprus’ governmental telecommunications company “SITA,” at the facility’s headquarters in Nicosia, with senior officials including the company’s head, deputy head, deputy chairman, board member as well as director for maintenance and investment Ogero General Manager Abdel Menhem Youssef and general manager of equipment and construction engineer Naji Andraos.

Cypriot Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Marios Demetriades also joined the meeting, before kicking off the official meetings with senior officials from the SITA Company and the Lebanese Telecommunications Ministry, in the presence of Lebanon’s Ambassador to Nicosia Youssef Sadaka.
