Ain Dara residents gathered Wednesday in Daher al-Baydar, upon the request of the town's municipality, to protest the establishment of a cement plant in their village.
They even halted the work of concrete mixer trucks.
A dispute erupted between the security forces and municipality officials who issued violation tickets for the breaches practiced by officials from Fattoush plant, but refused to settle them, according to the protesters.
In this context, the town’s residents set-up a tent at the place of the demonstration, stressing they will guard the road in order to prevent any truck from accessing the site.
The residents of Ain Dara town have been staging movements for around two months, trying to put an end to the establishment of a cement plant in their village.
Two weeks ago, a delegation from the town visited the Maronite Archbishop of Beirut Boulos Matar and handed him a report of harms and damages that would result from such plant.
