REPORT: Marriage in Akoura triggers horrific threats of murder

Horrific threats of murder were issued against the Mokhtar of the town of Mejdel al-Akoura Zouhair Tarabay.

Mr. Tarabay is a trader who owns large agricultural lands in the town of Afqa, and employs several Syrian workers as well as young men from the Zeaiter family. The situation deteriorated after one female worker and a member from the Zeaiter family escaped and got married. The girl’s family held the mokhtar responsible, despite the fact that the latter contacted the girl who confirmed that she went on her consent.

“We will slaughter you and your family,” is the threat Mr. Tarabay received, upon which two people were briefly arrested and new measures were imposed to control the presence of the Syrian refugees in the region.
