REPORT: Ministerial committee tackles Litani River dossier

Minister of Defense Samir Moqbel held a meeting at his office on Thursday with seven other Ministers, where they further discussed the Litani River pollution dossier.

Following the meeting Moqbel announced that “the ministerial committee decided to temporarily halt all licensed and unlicensed quarries on both banks of the river and stop the flow of wastewater.”

Moqbel addressed politicians asking them to not interfere with the decisions that will be taken concerning that matter, pointing out that meetings to solve the dossier will resume.

On another note, the minister stated that they could extend Army Commander Jean kahwaji's employment for another year, but said there is no room to extend for the chief of staff.

The meeting was attended by Interior Minister Nouhad Machnuk, Industry Minister Hussein Haj Hassan, Agriculture Minister Akram Chehayeb, Health Minister Wael Abou Faour, Head of CDR Nabil AL-Jiser, Head of Litani River Water Utility Authority Salim Ketfago and its Director Ali Houmani.
