Electricité du Liban contract workers reopened Friday the main entrance of the southern city of Tyre, after blocking it with burning tires for a period of 30 minutes.
In this regard, head of the contract workers committee Ali Saad said that this movement in the city of Tyre was implemented after they ran out of options and after the officials turned a deaf ear to the situation.
He added that they will continue their escalation across the Lebanese regions until they are granted their legitimate rights, calling on the authorities to fulfill their promises. He noted that the contract workers have met the officials’ demands and underwent and passed exams at the Civil Service Council, stating that “the officials are the ones who failed the test of loyalty and honesty.”
In the same context, EDL contract workers closed the company’s gates in the southern city of Sidon after the health condition of their colleague Rabih al-Sayegh, who has been on a hunger strike, deteriorated. They also staged a sit-in at the company’s premises, urging the authorities to grant them tenure and meet their demands.
