Member of the Change and Reform bloc MP Naamtallah Abi Nasr stressed Friday that the latest statements of Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq over the presidency indicate that he has information is this regard.
In a statement to LBCI’s Nharkom Said, he added that the most probable scenario includes MP Michel Aoun, pointing out that when the Lebanese officials decide to act, they can easily elect a new president.
Commenting on the issue of the Syrian refugees, the deputy noted that the number of Lebanese citizens residing in Lebanon is around 2.5 million, while the number of Syrian refugees reaches 1.5 million, in addition to half a million foreigners from other nationalities, which sums up to around 2 million foreigners residing in Lebanon, a sum that is almost equal to the number of Lebanese residents.
He stated that an intended demographic change lies behind these close numbers. “How could the Lebanese government remain silent over these facts? Is there any sectarian reasons?” he asked.
In the same regard, Abi Nasr said that requesting financial assistance for the refugees is not enough; however, work must be focused on ensuring the safe return of these refugees to their homeland.
