REPORT: FPM holds primary elections

The primary elections of the Free Patriotic Movement kicked off on Sunday in order to elect the potential candidates who will run for the parliamentary seats.

In this regard, 13 thousand voters are set to cast their votes across 14 districts to elect 73 candidates, who will in turn be narrowed down.

During his tour on voting centers, FPM chief Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil said from the city of Jbeil that the FPM primary elections bring down all excuses presented by the Lebanese government for not holding the parliamentary elections, adding that the importance of these primaries lies in the fact that it paves the way for establishing advanced democratic parties.

“We are at the first stage, which will be followed by a referendum for the potential candidates, then a comprehensive referendum before the elections,” he explained.

The minister urged all FPM adherents to vote, “for only their vote is at the base of all decisions.”

In turn, answering a question concerning the attempt of activist Ziad Abs, who has been expelled from the party, to win over a large number of votes, deputy head of FPM for political affairs Nicolas Sehnaoui told LBCI that “as long as the process remains democratic, nothing will bother them.”
