Health Minister Wael Abou Faour submitted Tuesday to State Prosecutor Judge Samir Hammoud and Financial Prosecutor Jude Ali Ibrahim a list of municipalities and factories that allegedly dump their waste in the Litani River’s stream or on its banks.
Abou Faour's decision comes after health ministry inspectors inspected the establishments adjacent to the river in Baalbek, Zahle and Western Bekaa.
The inspectors discovered that a great number of the establishments are dumping polluted water as well as industrial and medical waste in the river leading to its pollution and risking general health.
Abou Faour called for taking the appropriate judicial proceedings in this regard and holding accountable all those responsible for the damages.
