Following the session, Finance Minister Hassan Khalil said that “the session was considered the most important one of all.”
“Discussions over the electoral law will begin tomorrow, and we hope all principals we agree on would be put into practice,” he explained.
In the same framework, MP Talal Arslan said that a positive atmosphere prevailed over the session, pointing out that if negotiations continued in this manner, better things will await ahead.
For his part, Head of the Kataeb party MP Samy Gemayel stressed that “an important achievement was reached today and was represented in dealing with the administrative decentralization issue in a serious manner, while redirecting the dossier to the parliament.”
“No appointments will be made nor will an agreement over a president be reached, elections must take place at the parliament,” he added.
On another note, MP Ali Fayyad stated that “the session held deep and serious discussions, and there was an open negotiation over the improvement of the political system within the Taef agreement.”
Prior to the session, deputy Speaker Farid Makary said that he might step down from heading the joint committees should they remain fruitless.
