Cabinet holds session with illegal internet and telecom files on top of agenda

The cabinet held a session on Thursday at the Grand Serail under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Tammam Salam with the files of the illegal internet and telecommunications on top of its agenda.

Prior to the session, Industry Minister Hussein Hajj Hassan said he supports the appointment of an alternate to replace Abdel Menhem Youssef, stressing the need to abide by the law and follow up on the issue of the illegal internet.

For his part, Education Minister Elias Bou Saab said that “legally speaking, one person cannot occupy two jobs within the Lebanese state,” noting a judicial ruling has been issued in this regard based upon a lawsuit filed by Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil, but the ruling was never implemented due to the political situation then.

In the same context, Minister of Youth and Sports Abdel Motaleb al-Hennawi said that Abdel Menhem Youssef cannot be replaced before issuing a judicial verdict.
