The sixth
and last round of the parliamentary discussion sessions is ongoing under the
chairmanship of House Speaker Nabih Berri at Nejmeh Square on Thursday evening.
Upon the arrival of Change and Reform bloc MP Michel Aoun to
the Nejmeh Square, consultations kicked off between MPs to avoid taking the
confidence granted to the cabinet.
In this regard, MP Sami Gemayel set conditions in order not
to take the confidence from the cabinet; he wants the establishment of a
parliamentary investigation committee charged with the electricity issue and he
does not want to pay compensations to minister Nicolas Fattoush in the issue of
quarries
.
In the first address, MP Akram Chehayeb warned that the return of assassinations in Lebanon will
lead the country into the unknown and promote division. Chehayeb said that the issue of weapons can only be solved by
a consensus reached at the dialogue table, adding that the electoral law should
never target a certain group.
As for MP Qassem Abdul Aziz, he said that the current
government is the government of compromises, the government of fictive
victories.
Development
and Liberation bloc MP Ayoub Hamid said that the Lebanese are tired of international
and diplomatic procrastination, stressing that Syria played a positive role in
preventing Lebanon’s division.
For his part, Future bloc MP Hadi Hbeich said that this government
was imposed by the force of weapons, wondering “who stole the subsidized diesel
oil and who ordered such a theft? Who is behind the spoiled foodstuffs coming from
Israel?”
Kataeb MP
Sami Gemayel said, addressing Hezbollah MPs “your threats are unacceptable
and do not build a country”. He stressed
that he endorses Lebanon staying impartial to all events taking place outside
its territories.
Gemayel said
that the price of gasoline in Lebanon increased by 13$ while oil prices
decreased 5% worldwide.
“The solution lies
in setting a fixed price”, he said. Gemayel called for a a neutral, pluralistic and decentralized state that is not drawn to the policy of axes.
As for MP Boutros Harb, he said that previous governments’
violations do not justify the current government’s ones. “People have the right
to know the fate of embezzlers of public funds”, he said. Harb added that there
are bargaining processes taking place to keep the government despite suspicious
deals.
Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Mohammad Raad said that the
resistance is open for dialogue, “but dialogue requires building trust and steering
clear from skepticism”, he said. Raad
added that attacking and inciting against the resistance is a violation of the
national principles.
Lebanese
Forces MP Elie Keyrouz said that the attempt to assassinate Lebanese Forces
leader Samir Geagea is a complex terrorist act and a violation of the Lebanese
official security and the state’s sovereignty.
Future bloc MP Ahmad Fatfat said that since the majority
cannot find anything to defend in this government, it is attacking Rafik Hariri
“who came to rule a wrecked country, an army that was ruined when its commander
failed to order it, fled to the French Embassy and left his soldiers get killed
on the streets”.
