Despite migrant domestic workers’ low salaries in Lebanon and the inhumanity many of them face, domestic worker recruitment agencies continue to use them, stealing their last penny.
It all starts with the agencies’ taking away the domestic workers first three months’ salary as soon as they start working at a household.
The three month period is when the domestic worker is still under the agencies “guarantee”.
When the three month period comes to an end; some agencies have been helping domestic workers escape, in order to have them work on an hour based schedule, where they also make sure to take more than half of their revenues.
