REPORT: Ruling issued in Manal Assi’s case is a setback to Lebanese judiciary

In 2011, the Lebanese Parliament approved a draft-law to cancel article 562 of the penal code that calls for limited punishments for honor killings.

Five years later, the judiciary issued a ruling that gave Manal Assi’s husband, who bludgeoned her to death, a mitigating excuse, seemingly since he killed her after he found out that she was cheating on him with another man.

It is worth noting that the husband has a second wife.
