In a statement, the ministry stressed that “recruiting Nepalese domestic workers should abide by the Lebanese laws and should not be exploited by anyone to impose additional fees.”
The ministry had been contacted by the Nepalese embassy in Cairo, which will supervise the recruitment of its nationals to Lebanon, the statement said, noting that the embassy has no representational power in Lebanon.
“The Nepalese Consul demanded a Lebanese employer to pay an additional $1,000 to recruit a Nepalese worker to Lebanon and $10,000 for any agency in Lebanon wishing to recruit Nepalese workers,” the statement added.
The ministry concluded by pointing out that these conditions and practices contravene the diplomatic relations and add illegal fees on agencies and Lebanese families.
