REPORT: We need the overwhelming majority to succeed - Bassil
Minister of Foreign Affairs Gebran Bassil voiced hopes on Sunday that “a day would come and the country would absorb everyone.”

Bassil’s comments were made from the southern town of Ain Ebel whereby he noted that the Free Patriotic Movement is working “on building a state,” adding that they need "the overwhelming majority to succeed in their mission."

On Tuesday, Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil, who is also head of the FPM, declared that the party’s ministers will boycott the Cabinet session to express their objection to the extension of senior military chiefs’ mandates.

Last week, Defense Minister Samir Moqbel extended the term of Major General Mohammad Kheir, the secretary-general of the Higher Defense Council, by one year, despite FPM ministers’ opposition during last week’s Cabinet session.

Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum since the mandate of president Michel Sleiman ended in May 2014 without the election of a successor.

Deep disputes between rival political parties have thwarted the elections.
