Sheikh Kaouk: We have cut the hand that wanted to ignite strife in the country
Deputy Chairman of the Executive Council of Hezbollah, Sheikh Nabil Kaouk asserted on Tuesday that the sacrifices made by the Lebanese army and the Resistance defeated the Takfiri terrorism.”

“We have cut the hand that wanted to ignite strife in the country,’ he added.

Sheikh Kaouk reiterated that the Resistance, in cooperation with the Lebanese army, “made Lebanon immune to the Takfiri and Israeli dangers.”

On another note, he blamed Saudi Arabia for the ongoing presidential vacuum in the country.

“The real cause of Lebanon’s crisis is Saudi Arabia with its veto against MP Michel Aoun’s nomination for the presidency,” he added.

Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum since the mandate of Michel Sleiman ended in May 2014 without the election of a successor.

The MPs of Hezbollah, MP Michel Aoun's Change and Reform bloc and some of their allies have been boycotting the parliament's sessions tasked to elect a new president, stripping them of the needed quorum.

Future Movement chief former Prime Minister Saad Hariri, who is close to Saudi Arabia, launched an initiative in 2015 to nominate Marada Movement leader MP Sleiman Franjieh for the presidency.

However, his proposal was met with reservations from the country's main Christian parties as well as Hezbollah.

Hariri's nomination prompted Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea to support the nomination of Aoun, a close ally to Hezbollah and his long-time Christian rival.

The supporters of Aoun's bid say that he is more eligible than Franjieh to become Lebanon’s next president due to the size of his parliamentary bloc and his bigger influence in the Christian community.
