REPORT: Speaker Berri says institutional paralysis will be faced with force if need be

Speaker Nabih Berri called Wednesday for ending the institutional paralysis, stressing the importance of national dialogue.

“Without it we will reach a point where we will have to declare the state’s failure,” he said in a speech he delivered during a ceremony held on occasion of 38th anniversary of Imam Moussa Sadr’s disappearance.

He also stressed the need to reach an agreement over a new electoral law and cabinet formation, which in turn will open the door for the election of a new president, warning against the “time wasting game.”

Berri tackled the living situation and the waste crisis, calling for passing the pay scale and granting the employees their rights, calling for establishing cooperation between the municipalities and the government in order to clean the rivers.

Commenting on the regional situation, he said that some parties seek to drag Iraq, Syria and Yemen into a never-ending bloody conflict, adding that others forgot about Israel and now aim at Iran.

On another note, he said that Imam Moussa Sadr and companions were subject to the worst forms of kidnapping in history by the regime of Muammar al-Qaddafi, noting that no one in Lebanon or Libya have received any proof that Imam Sadr or any of his companions died.

“We will not accept any compromise in the in handling the case of Imam Sadr,” he stated, adding that the file of Hannibal Qaddafi remains in the hands of the Lebanese judiciary.
