REPORT: Waste crisis solution looming in the horizon after tripartite meeting

A meeting was held on Monday between Agriculture Minister Akram Shehayyeb, Education Minister Elias Bou Saab and MP Ibrahim Kanaan to discuss the Lebanese waste crisis.

Following the meeting Kanaan said that “the current proposal is based upon both a temporary and permanent solution", calling on forming a supervisory body to oversee the implementation process of the waste plan.

For his part Shehayyeb stated that the administrative decentralization does not mean ‘a random unorganized dumping of waste’, hoping Kataeb ministers would give them a hand in taking trash off the streets, just like last time.

In turn, Minister Bou Saab considered that the implementation of the administrative decentralization in the waste file is the foundation of the solution.

Prior to the meeting Bou Saab said “there was a thin line between solving the crisis and exploiting people’s distress.”
