Speaker Nabih Berri postponed on Wednesday the 44th parliamentary session dedicated to elect a new president until September 28th due to lack of quorum.
Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum after former President Michel Sleiman's mandate ended in May 2014 with rival political blocs still divided over a new leader.
Lebanese Forces MP Georges Adwan urged feuding rivals to meet halfway to end the country’s alarming crises.
After holding a closed-door meeting with head of Future bloc MP Fouad Siniora, Adwan stressed that “there was no tension in relations between the LF and the Future Movement, only a mere difference in points of view.”
“The country is at crossroads,” added Adwan, “Saniora and I focused our talks on how to stop the tension and put things on the right track to help elect a president and avoid further problems.”
On another note, the LF official pointed out that the government was never a government of national reconciliation, calling on Prime Minister Tammam Salam to “calm down.”
For his part, MP Nawar al-Sahili disclosed that efforts are being exerted to adjourn a Cabinet session set to be held tomorrow in a bid to prevent the disruption of the last constitutional institution in the country.
In turn, MP Yassine Jaber said that national dialogue sessions were suspended.
“We will attend any Cabinet meeting called for by PM Salam,” Jaber stated.
