Resigned Minister of Justice Ashraf Rifi stated Monday that Iran hindered the Lebanese Presidential elections, reiterating his rejection to hold a constituent conference.
Rifi addressed those who claim to abide by the National Pact, calling on them to elect a new president, in order to form a cabinet and organize parliamentary elections.
Following Eid al-Adha prayers, Rifi stressed that he will not accept any agreement that may affect the rights of the Sunnis, or any minority, emphasizing that Lebanon belongs to everyone.
Rifi stressed his determination to resign, noting however that he will attend the cabinet meeting “only for the sake of Tripoli,” on the condition to include in the agenda the item pertaining to the dissolution of the Democratic Arabic party and the Islamic Unification movement – Hashem Minkara branch.
