Why does Lebanon fail in sports? Is the title of a lecture delivered at the American University of Beirut by German professor Danyel Reiche (Associate Professor for Comparative Politics, AUB), on the sidelines of launching his book “Success and Failure of Nations at the Olympics.”
In the book, Reiche proposes the “WISE” formula that helps explain Olympic success. WISE stands for promoting women in sports; institutionalizing national sports promotion; specializing in particularly promising sports; and early adoption of such trends as newly added disciplines.
