Activists hold sit-in outside Costa Brava landfill

Activists staged on Saturday a demonstration outside the Costa Brave landfill, preventing trucks from entering the site.

The activists said that the landfill endangers the marine environment on the Lebanese coast, adding that it threatens the safety of civilian planes coming from the nearby Beirut airport.

Costa Brava is one of two landfills that are included in the government plan to end the country’s waste management crisis, which started July of last year with the shutdown of the Naameh landfill after 17 years of operation.
