LF media official Riachi to LBCI: Hariri still endorse Frangieh’s candidacy for presidency
Lebanese Forces media official Melhem Riachi said on Saturday that former Prime Minister Saad Hariri notified LF leader Samir Geagea that he still endorse Marada leader MP Sleiman Frangieh’s candidacy for the presidency.

Riachi’s comments were made during an interview with Nharkom Said TV show whereby he noted that the last meeting between Hariri and Geagea was “excellent.”

He also added that Hariri notified them that he will pay a visit to Saudi Arabia and Russia.

Hariri visited on Friday Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea in Maarab.

Following the meeting, Geagea announced that “differences with Hariri over the presidential issue began to narrow,” pointing out that presidential elections entered a new phase.

“It is not over yet,” Geagea clarified, adding that Hariri might not reveal his stance in this regard anytime soon.

In the same context, the LF chief said that House Speaker Nabih Berri would not have taken his uncompromising stance over refusing the arrival of General Michel Aoun to presidency, if he did not hold consultations with Hezbollah.

“Upcoming days will reveal everything. At the end, Hezbollah cannot hide forever,” He said.

Hariri also held a meeting with Free Patriotic Movement founder MP Michel Aoun in Rabieh, shortly after his talks with Geagea in Maarab.

Lebanon has been plunged in to a presidential vacuum since the mandate of Michel Sleiman ended in May 2014 and Hezbollah, Aoun's Change and Reform bloc and some of their allies have been boycotting the parliament's electoral sessions, stripping them of the needed quorum.

Hariri, who is a close ally to Saudi Arabia, launched an initiative in 2015 to nominate Frangieh for the presidency. However, his proposal was met with reservations from the country's main Christian parties as well as Hezbollah.

Hariri's move prompted Geagea to nominate Aoun for the presidency, after months of political rapprochement talks between their two parties.

The supporters of Aoun's presidential race consider that he is more eligible than Frangieh to become Lebanon’s next president due to the size of his parliamentary bloc.
