Amine Gemayel from Canada: Lebanon’s democracy important for region’s stability
Former President Amine Gemayel stressed on Sunday the importance of maintaining stability and democracy in the country, as a condition for the region’s stability.

Gemayel’s comments were made after meeting with Canadian Foreign Minister Stéphane Dion in Ottawa, whereby he noted that Lebanon will not capitulate to the de facto situation, illustrated by blocking the presidential elections and paralyzing the constitutional institutions.

Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum since the mandate of President Michel Sleiman ended in May 2014 without the election of a successor.
Deep disputes between rival political parties have thwarted the election process.
