REPORT: First trial in lawsuit filed by activists against state and al-Jihad Group delayed

The first trial session expected to be held in the lawsuit filed by the civil society groups against the Lebanese State and Jihad al-Arab Company in the case of the closure of Costa Brava landfill was delayed until October 15th.

The delay came as an answer is required from the prosecution to the lists presented by the federation of municipalities of Beirut southern suburb and al-Jihad Group.

Last month, Lebanese activist lawyers file a lawsuit against the Lebanese state and a private company in order to block the construction of two controversial landfills east and south of the capital.

According to media reports, the first lawsuit was filed before an urgent matters judge in Baabda against the state, the Al-Jihad Group for Commerce and Contracting and the Union of the southern Beirut municipalities.

The second lawsuit was filed before a similar judge in Jdeidet al-Metn.

Al-Jihad Group was awarded the contract for the construction of the two landfills, one in Costa Brava and the other in Burj Hammoud.
