After Aoun-Sleiman spat, light shed on presidential prerogatives
The issue of the president’s role and prerogatives has made it to the forefront again after Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun said that “the experience does not encourage the acceptance of another consensual president,” and the president counterattacked saying that “at least a consensual president does not beg for the presidency.”

In this context, MP and former Minister Edmond Rizk said that one cannot go through the dilemma of “who is eligible to the post of president without returning to the Taif accord and the constitution.”

In turn, MP Farid Khazen pointed out flaws in the power structure and in the role of president as ruler and head of state.

In this context, Rizk said that “there is no political ideology on the scene today but rather a sterile political moot point”.

In turn, Khazen said that it is still early to speak about the future president .
