The Criminal Court of Cassation accepted Thursday the cassation plea in the case of Manal Assi submitted by Judge Samir Hammoud and her detained husband.
Also, the court decided to carry out a re-trial on the 1st of December.
Manal Assi was killed by her husband Mohammad al-Nhaily in February 2014, whose death penalty sentence was reduced from death penalty to five years of imprisonment by president of Beirut Criminal Court Judge Hilena Iskandar. The judge’s decision was made according to Article 252 of the penal code which allows reduced punishment if a crime occurred as a result of extreme outrage causes by “dangerous and wrongful action committed by the victim”
