REPORT: Waste crisis looms as Sukleen employees protest

Garbage crisis may return, but this time it will be due to internal disagreements within Sukleen Company in Beirut.

In the details, employees stated that Sukleen decided to fire a number of its workers without paying them compensation, because they have not yet been told to renew their contracts by the Council for Development and Reconstruction.

The workers decided not to collect garbage and held a sit-in instead.

Similarly, Sukomi employees decided to hold a sit-in at the company’s headquarters in Beirut.

Both Sukleen and Sukomi mentioned in a statement that they will continue to seek business continuity with the new contractors, adding that they have not reported to their waste collectors the intention of firing them.

For more details, watch the full report in the video above.
