REPORT: Convoys parade Tripoli streets as Rifi expresses rejection to electing Aoun as president

Resigned Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi declared that the election of MP Michel Aoun as president is rejected, noting that this would expose the country to further divisions.

During a protest in Tripoli, Rifi pointed out that the Governor of North Lebanon removed the anti-Aoun banners upon the directive of the interior minister, adding that “those who cannot tolerate a banner, how will they tolerate an opposition?”

“If they are removing one banner, we will be replacing it with ten others,” he stated.

Convoys had patrolled across the city of Tripoli with speakers running national songs in support for Rifi’s stance rejecting Aoun’s nomination for presidency.
