REPORT: Nasrallah says all Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MPs will vote for Aoun
Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah delivered on Sunday a televised speech marking one week since the death of Hezbollah commander Hatem Hamade in Syria.

In his speech, Nasrallah said that no one has forced the party to fight in Syria, adding that the battle in Aleppo is “crucial for the entire region since it will have military, political, ground and strategic repercussions.”

He also noted that the battle was not aimed at toppling a certain regime, adding that it was a battle aimed at making “demographic and border changes.”

Nasrallah stressed that Hezbollah's fighters will not "return to Lebanon" before "achieving victory in Syria."

Since Hezbollah's entry into Syria's civil war on the side of President Bashar al-Assad, some 1,500 of its fighters have died, say security sources in Lebanon. These have included about 350 this year; their images, often in heroic pose, are displayed on posters in Shi'ite villages across Lebanon.

Hezbollah's part in the war is presented by the movement as both a defense against Sunni Muslim jihadists in Syria who have vowed to exterminate all Shi'ites, and as a way of protecting the regional Iran-backed bloc that has long sustained Hezbollah.

Hezbollah has become an indispensable part of the coalition of forces backed by Iran and Russia that has been critical to keeping Assad in power and battling the myriad groups of Sunni rebels and jihadists striving to depose him.

Turning to the Lebanese dossier, Nasrallah noted that Future Movement leader Saad Hariri's endorsement of Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun's nomination for the presidency is a "significant development" that paves the way for holding the presidential election "in a realistic manner during the next parliamentary session."

Nasrallah also stressed that the relationship with the AMAL Movement is "stronger and deeper than any fabrications."

He noted that the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc will attend the next parliamentary session tasked to elect a new president, adding that all the bloc's lawmakers will vote in favor of Aoun.

Aoun is excepted to become Lebanon's next president after Hariri formally endorsed his nomination on Thursday.

Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum since the mandate of Michel Sleiman ended in May 2014 and Hezbollah, Aoun's Change and Reform bloc and some of their allies have been boycotting the parliamentary sessions tasked to elect a new president, stripping them of the needed quorum.

Hariri, who is close to Saudi Arabia, launched an initiative in late 2015 to nominate Marada Movement leader MP Sleiman Frangieh for the presidency. However, his suggestion was met with reservations from the country's main Christian parties as well as Hezbollah.

The supporters of Aoun's presidential bid say that he is more eligible than Frangieh to become Lebanon’s next president due to the size of his parliamentary bloc and his bigger influence in the Christian community.
