Speaker Nabih Berri stated Monday evening that electing a new president is not enough to solve the problems on the local level, especially regarding the electoral law.
Berri said during a dinner hosted by the Lebanese ambassador to the United Nations Najla Assaker in Geneva that the electoral law should include an electoral quota for women, and that it should be based on proportionality in order to reach a certain level of civilization and towards assuaging sectarianism.
Berri noted that the regional crises have affected Lebanon, stressing the issue of Syrian refugees whose number reached more than half of the Lebanese population, adding that this matter posed a danger to the country’s economic, educational, and social sectors.
