REPORT: Lebanese army denies gunshot fired at Israeli soldier on border
The Israeli army said on Wednesday that gunfire from an exchange of fire wounded an Israeli soldier on the border.

In a statement, the Israeli army said that "shots targeting the Israeli forces on the border with Lebanon near the Mtolleh village injured an Israeli soldier.”

The statement did not give any additional information in this regard.

This as a security source denied later on to LBCI any shooting from the Lebanese side towards the Israeli patrol.

For its part, the Lebanese army command denied, in comments made to the state-run National News Agency that gunfire had been opened at an Israeli soldier along the southern borders.

Meanwhile, The United Nations peacekeeping force in Lebanon UNIFIL, said it had received Israel's report of the incident and that an investigation had been opened.

The peacekeeping force added that contacts are ongoing with the parties to help control the situation and help prevent escalation.
It also urged both sides to exercise maximum restraint.

Lebanon and Israel are still officially at war although the border area has been fairly calm during the past years.

Israel occupied parts of Lebanon for 22 years until 2000, with Hezbollah claiming credit for its withdrawal following persistent attacks.

A 34-day conflict in 2006 caused to the deaths of 1,200 people in Lebanon, mainly civilians, and 160 Israelis, mostly soldiers.
