REPORT: Transportation unions say strike will continue, inspection centers will remain closed
The Union and Leagues of Land Transportation held since the early morning of Thursday to stage sit-ins across Lebanon.

The unions of land transportation stated Thursday that they will continue with their strike if the new deal on vehicle inspection is not cancelled.

The head of the union Bassam Tleis declared from Riad al-Solh square in Beirut that vehicle inspection centers will remain closed until their demands are met by the government, adding that the unions won’t stop their movements as long “as there are institutions violating the law.”

Tleis also added that the Minister of Interior and the Council of Ministers are responsible for this issue.

The protesters have blocked the following Sham International road, Dora road, Palma highway in Tripoli and the maritime road in both directions, Chekka tunnels in both directions, Zahle Ferzol road in bother directions, traffic directed to sub roads, Abdeh road towards al-Minnieh,  Al Bass turnabout in Tyre, and  Al Assad highway towards Beirut.

Moreover,  several schools in Beirut closed their doors because of the strike.

The transportation unions have been demonstrating the privatization of the vehicle inspection agencies and the increase of the inspection fees by blocking roads in different regions across Lebanon.
