REPORT: Israel links border shooting incident to Lebanon’s presidential elections

The Israeli jets have been conducting flights over the northern region since news broke out of an Israeli soldier who was hit by gunfire near the border with Lebanon.

The Israeli army also intensified its patrols along the border, while monitoring the border region and the movements of the Lebanese.

For the first time, the Israelis did not blame Hezbollah for the shooting incident, but instead considered it as an attempt by the Lebanese to obstruct the efforts deployed in a bid to elect a new president.

However, the mayors of the Jewish northern villages said that this incident is an introduction to a war, accusing the government of neglecting their safety and urging the authorities to implement tight measures in order to prevent the recurrence of such an incident.

In turn, the Israeli army continued investigations into the shooting in cooperation with the UNIFIL.
