Supporters of Sheikh al-Tarras rally in Beirut

Supporters of detained Sunni Muslim cleric Sheikh Bassam al-Tarras staged on Friday a sit-in outside the al-Amine Mosque in Downtown Beirut to protest against his continuous arrest.

 

The protesters asserted that the file of al-Tarras is “empty,” adding there is no reason that requires his continuous arrest.

 

They also said that a campaign will soon be launched in order to press for his release.

Last month, Sheikh Bassam al-Tarras was briefly arrested over suspicion of his involvement in the bomb explosion that targeted the Ksara roundabout in Zahle, killing one woman and injuring several others.

 

He was summoned again by police for questioning over “security issues" and has remained in detention since.
