In this context, Aoun received a phone call from French President Francois Hollande who congratulated him on his election, stressing France’s support for Lebanon based on historical bilateral relations. Aoun thanked his French counterpart and expressed gratitude to the efforts deployed by France to help Lebanon in all the fields.
The president also received a phone call from Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani who tackled issues that concern both states.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani contacted President Aoun to congratulate him and express his hope to strengthen the relation between Lebanon and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi also called Aoun to congratulate him.
US State Department
The US embassy in Lebanon issued a statement on Monday whereby it said that Washington congratulates the people of Lebanon on the election of President Michel Aoun, in accordance with Lebanon’s constitution.
“This is a moment of opportunity, as Lebanon emerges from years of political impasse, to restore government functions and build a more stable and prosperous future for all Lebanese citizens,” the statement added, urging all parties to uphold Lebanon’s international obligations, including those contained in UN Security Council Resolutions 1559 and 1701, which emphasize that there be no authority other than that of the Government in Lebanon.
The embassy stated that the US will continue to stand side by side with the Lebanese people and support Lebanon’s independence, sovereignty, security, and stability.
UN’s Ban Ki Moon
United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon welcomed the election of a new president in Lebanon, calling for the swift formation of a new cabinet.
Ban congratulated Aoun on his election as president, ending a two-year long deadlock caused by divisions between the political factions.
