President Michel Aoun pledged on Sunday to work on eradicating corruption, stressing that no politician will be allowed to violate the Constitution, as a strong State is one built upon a constitution respected by all politicians and people.
Addressing his supporters who flocked from across the Lebanese regions to congratulate him on his election, Aoun remembered the scenes from 1988-90 era saying: “We met before at this same square during difficult circumstances, but we were proud and vigorous. Today, we remember our fallen martyrs and our dear soldiers who went missing and we cannot but remember them during any national occasion.”
Aoun also stated that a large international plot triumphed and allowed non-Lebanese soldiers to invade the country, stressing that they did not fight the Lebanese and never aimed for power.
“Today, we can stand proudly and defiantly before all people and countries because we have created our national unity and upcoming journey, which is building the state, has just begun” the president said, adding that non-politicized security forces must preserve the security of the Lebanese and must be entrusted with imposing the implementation of the laws.
Speaking about future social and development projects, he explained that projects lie ahead to meet the citizens’ most basic needs.
“We will exploit our natural resources and we will provide the people with their needs as soon as possible,” he emphasized, vowing to eradicate corruption and restore a clean environment.
Aoun was elected president on Monday October 31, after he received key support Future Movement leader Saad Hariri, which ended two and a half years of presidential vacuum.
