[VIDEO] Zarif arrives in Lebanon, meets President Aoun

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif ​met on Monday with newly-elected President Michel Aoun at the Baabda Palace as a part of hid official visit to Beirut.

 

"Lebanon's success in electing a new president after two and a half years of presidential vacuum is a victory for all Lebanese,” Zarif said following the meeting with Aoun which was attended by Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Gebran Bassil.

 

Zarif said his visit aimed at “developing and boosting bilateral ties at the political and economic levels.”

 

He also praised Aoun's oathe of office which he said "depicts the president's wisdom."

 

Zarif is accompanied by a large Iranian delegation formed of around 45 economic and political figures.

 

​he is also expected to meet with top Lebanese officials, such as Speaker Nabih Berri, outgoing Prime Minister Tammam Salam, Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri and other figures to tackle the latest regional and local developments.
