Turkish FM to LBCI: Lebanon’s stability is essential to Turkey

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu stressed Saturday that electing Michel Aoun as new president is a success for Lebanon, expressing his country’s relief over the end of Lebanon’s presidential vacuum that lasted more than two years, hoping that the Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri will be able to complete his mission is forming a new cabinet that enhances Lebanon’s stability.

Cavusoglu told LBCI’s Kalam El Nas TV show that Lebanon is not only just a neighboring country, but Turkey view is as a friendly state, noting that Lebanon’s stability comes with Turkey’s stability.

On the regional level, the minister answered a question concerning accusations launched against Turkey blaming it for supporting al-Nusra Front and other terrorist organization, saying that: “Turkey is telling the truth and it is fighting terrorist organizations.”

“Why does the Islamic State attack us? Because we fight its ideology, it does not represent Islam in any way,” he stated.

Cavusoglu pointed out that a ceasefire is needed in Syria, stressing the need to separate between al-Nusra Front and the opposition forces. He added that the only solution is the political one, calling for a political dialogue between the rivals.
