A delegation from the Free Patriotic Movement visited political leaderships on Monday to tackle the urgency of passing a new electoral law.
The delegation’s first stop was at MP Mohammad Safadi’s office where the meeting was attended by MPs Naamtallah Abi Nasr, Alain Aoun, Ghassan Mkheiber, Ziad Aswad and Ibrahim Kanaan, who tackled the proposals available on the table of discussion, including the draft law proposed by the Tripoli bloc in 2004.
The FPM PMs then headed to Maarab where they met with Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea, in the presence of MP Antoine Zahra, the party’s Secretary General Chantal Sarkis, media officer Charles Jabbour and former media officer Melhem Riachi.
Following the meeting, Kanaan stressed that the tour aims at creating a driving force toward passing a new electoral law, emphasizing the need to follow a constitutional course to form new cabinet.
From Maarab, Kanaan stated that they are open to discuss any draft law that guarantees national partnership, which has been previously denied.
For his part, MP Zahra said that the Lebanese Forces and the FPM’s main concern is to reach a new fair law, noting that there are a few required reforms that lead to said law.
