REPORT: Israel’s plan to take in 100 Syrian orphans raises controversy

The Israeli cabinet has issued a decision declaring its intention to take in 100 orphaned Syrian children, a decision that stirred conflicting reactions and raised question marks regarding the reality of the intention and whether it stems from humanitarian motives.

Government officials said that the plan to bring in orphans is still in its preliminary phases and that Israel had reached out to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for assistance in identifying candidates.

Critics immediately dismissed the plans as window dressing designed to enhance Israel’s public image.
