REPORT: Jumblatt calls for a revised version of 190 vote law
Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat called on Sunday for holding the parliamentary elections based on a “revised” version of the 1960 electoral law, refusing all calls for proportional representation.

“Lebanon's history was built on diversity and accepting the others and there is no threat or fear,” Jumblat said during the PSP's 47th convention.

“We can find an amended format of the 1960 law, or else let us immediately seek the implementation of the Taef Accord, which we can be implemented fully or gradually while taking into consideration the country's conditions,” the PSP leader urged.

“Political sectarianism can be eradicated while keeping some norms, precisely the election of a Christian president for the republic. When we eliminate political sectarianism we can consider the implementation of a proportional representation, which was not mentioned in the Taef Accord,” the PSP leader concluded by saying.
