Tension eases in Tripoli, roads reopened

Roads leading to An-Nour Square were reopened on Wednesday amid continued protests and shortly after an agreement to a second interrogation with Shadi Mawlawi on Thursday was reached between Interior Minister Marwan Charbel, Islamic committees and committee for Islamist detainees.

Tension eased on Wednesday afternoon after violence reemerged earlier in the day, resulting in several injuries, including one soldier.

The soldier was injured in Bab el-Tebbaneh as the LAF returned fire and pursued the shooters.

The Army Command announced that it managed to arrest a number of armed men and seize their arms and ammunition.

Earlier in the day, LBCI cameras showed the absence of gunmen in the streets of Bab al-Tebbaneh, Jabal Mohsen and al-Qobba. It also showed a handful of residents removing rubble from the streets, while most shops are still closed, especially near Syria Street.

Following the meeting of the Secondary Security Council in Tripoli, Interior Minister Marwan Charbel confirmed that the state will soon settle the issue of Islamist detainees and other prisoners in the Roumieh prison, adding that the Islamist detainees found innocent will be released.
