The developments are accelerating in a hysterical way,
whether it was on the ground or on the political scene or on the diplomatic
scene. While the focus was on calming the situation in Tripoli by the judiciary
decision to release the detainee Shadi al-Mawlawi, another diplomatic crisis
exploded when Qatar, Bahrain and UAE issued a warning calling their citizens
not to travel to Lebanon and urging those already there to return to their
countries. While efforts were being exerted to contain the repercussions of
this crisis, one more crisis exploded when Sheikh Ahmed Abed al-Wahed was
murdered. The reactions that followed the crime brought back the same
conditions that triggered the war of 1975.
The killing
of Sheikh Abed al-Wahed almost created a new formula in Akkar where army was
rejected and ISF was requested. This formula was interpreted in many statements
and stances taken by politicians. This tension launched a series of measures
and steps, chief among them LAF’s decision to form an investigation committee,
then the security meeting held in the Serail and headed by PM Mikati.
The latest
events will not reduce the interest in Shadi al-Mawlawi’s destiny which will be
revealed with the decision concerning his release request on Tuesday. As for the
funeral of Sheikh al-Wahed, it will take place on Monday.
