REPORT: Trucks block highways across Lebanon, commuters stuck in heavy traffic jam

After a two-day escalation by the owners of trucks protesting a decision issued by the Interior Ministry to halt the work of quarries until the issue is discussed during a cabinet session in order to regulate the sector, the owners of quarries and the truck drivers blocked highways and roads across the Lebanese regions.

In this regard, the head of the syndicate of owners and drivers of trucks, Shafiq al-Qassis said that the road blocking comes after a decision by the Interior Ministry to halt the work of trucks and quarries, while allowing the trucks to work only on Wednesdays and Fridays. He declared an open-ended sit-in starting Thursday morning.

The protesters stressed that they will continue their movements until their demands are met.
