Secretary General of the Lebanese Communist Party Hanna Gharib called on all Lebanese leftist and non-sectarian parties, forces and officials, including non-governmental associations and bodies, to meet as soon as possible before May 15 to discuss and agree over an initiative to improve the joint principles for a new electoral law that boosts the chances for a democratic change in the country.
On occasion of World Labor day on the first of May, Gharib addressed the Lebanese people, saying that “in Lebanon, the first of May comes in the midst of the deepest political and economic crisis that has overshadowed the working class.”
In a press conference, Gharib noted that the Lebanese Communist Party approaches any electoral draft law based on its vision for the country’s ultimate interest in terms of promoting national belonging, social integration and respecting the principles of equality. “This is why we proposed the proportionality law,” he stated.
He also called for wide participation in the global and popular demonstration that will take place on Monday May 01 outside the headquarters of the National Confederation of Trade Unions and Employees.
