Uneasy calm prevails in Tariq al-Jdideh following deadly overnight clashes
An uneasy calm prevailed Monday morning in Beirut's Tariq al-Jdideh with a heavy army presence after two people were killed and 18 injured in overnight clashes.

Sunday's clashes spilled over into several Beirut neighborhoods following the killing of two Muslim preachers by LAF soldiers manning a checkpoint in Akkar.

The clashes that erupted between members of the Future Movement and Shaker Berjawi's Arab Movement Party resulted in serious material damage, including the burning of the headquarters of the Arab Movement Party.

Overnight protests in Corniche al-Mazraa, Kaskas, Cola and Tarik al-Jdideh near the Arab University, began with cutting off roads and burning of tires but soon turned into a heavy exchange of gunfire in Tariq al-Jdideh.

It was reported that the Arab University opened its doors on Monday, hours after the street battle ended.
